What it is
Chimney lining and flue system installation covers everything from a stainless flexi-liner dropped from the pot down an existing chimney, through to a full twin-wall insulated flue built internally or externally where no chimney exists. Also includes cowls, terminals, register plates and access hatches.
Who it is for
Every solid fuel and most gas stove installations need the correct flue, as do many rebuilt period fireplaces. Also for homeowners with existing open fires wanting to convert to a stove, or extending a home where a chimney needs to be added.
When to book
Any time the existing chimney fails a smoke test, is unlined, is over 60 years old, or where a stove is being installed in a property that never had a chimney. Also when converting an open fire to a stove, the required flue diameter and gas velocity are different.
Why professional help matters
The flue is the single most important safety component in a solid fuel install. A cracked, unlined or wrong-sized flue is what causes chimney fires, carbon monoxide incidents and smoke ingress. Getting it right: first time, with certified components, is not optional.
If it's ignored
A hundred years of thermal cycling, weather and settlement leaves brick chimneys with fissures. Hot flue gases find those cracks, ignite deposits, and spread fire into roof timbers. Lining eliminates the risk.
316-grade stainless is fine for wood-only appliances. Burn smokeless fuel through it and the acids attack it, 904-grade is the correct spec for multi-fuel. We fit the grade the fuel demands.
Twin-wall systems from unbranded suppliers routinely fail, joints leak, insulation degrades, terminals rust. We install branded systems only, with the manufacturer warranty in writing.

Dust sheets and protection go down first. Our HETAS-registered team completes the install to Building Regulations, cleans as we go, and treats your home like our own, no shortcuts, no mess left behind.

Smoke test, draw test, first light with you present, plus a full walk-through of controls, fuel and maintenance. HETAS certificate issued to you and your insurer. 12-month workmanship guarantee starts the day we leave.

For existing chimneys, we drop a 316 or 904-grade stainless flexi-liner from the pot down the chimney, seal top and bottom, and backfill with vermiculite for thermal performance. The liner is sized to the appliance flue outlet and cowled to prevent downdraught and rain.
For properties without chimneys, we install branded twin-wall insulated flue systems, internal routes through the property or external routes up the outside wall. Every joint is sealed to the manufacturer's spec and clearances to combustibles respected.
The plate at the base of the chimney seals the void above the stove chamber, includes an insulated access hatch for annual sweep access, and provides a clean structural interface between chamber finish and flue.
We supply and fit anti-downdraught cowls, bird and rain guards, and where needed replace or re-flaunch damaged chimney pots as part of the install.

316-grade liners burning wood-only typically last 15–20 years. 904-grade liners burning multi-fuel typically last 25–30 years. Both come with manufacturer warranties matching those periods.
Almost always in period chimneys. Some newer 1970s+ concrete-block chimneys with existing terracotta or pumice liners can be reused subject to smoke test, we survey and tell you honestly.
Yes: subject to listed building consent, which we manage on your behalf. External runs are typically the most sensitive; internal runs boxed within the property are often the more sympathetic solution.
Flue diameter matches the appliance manufacturer's specification: typically 125mm (5") or 150mm (6") for domestic stoves. We size it correctly at survey.
Yes: every chimney is swept before lining as a matter of course, and a smoke test is performed to confirm integrity.
Yes: flexi-liners bend around most chimney offsets. Where the bend is severe, we sometimes need to reduce the liner diameter or design an alternative route, which we spec at survey.
