Overview

What this service is: and who it is for.

What it is

Gas stove installation covers appliance selection, gas supply connection, flue design (balanced or conventional), hearth and chamber works, and Gas Safe certification. The end result is a fireplace that lights instantly, throws real radiant heat, and is far lower-maintenance than solid fuel.

Who it is for

Perfect for busy households, apartments with mains gas but no chimney, older homeowners who no longer want to handle logs, and holiday-let owners who need reliable, on-demand ambience without the mess.

When to book

Ideal during kitchen and living-room renovations, apartment fit-outs, or when converting an existing decorative fireplace into a working heat source. Also a common choice when a solid-fuel stove has become impractical to maintain.

Why professional help matters

Gas stoves must be installed and certified by a Gas Safe engineer. Uncertified work is illegal, uninsurable and dangerous. Beyond the certification, the difference between a good and poor gas install shows in flame quality, heat output, and how the stove reads visually against its chamber and surround.

If it's ignored

The cost of getting this wrong is higher than the cost of doing it once.

Uncertified gas work is illegal.

Any gas appliance installed by someone not on the Gas Safe register is a criminal offence, invalidates your insurance, and puts your household at risk of carbon monoxide poisoning. There is no cheap workaround.

Wrong flue type kills the flame picture.

Balanced flue and conventional flue models look different and behave differently. Choosing the wrong one for your property means a compromised flame view or a stove that struggles to run cleanly.

Poor commissioning wastes gas every year.

A gas stove that isn't correctly commissioned burns rich or lean, sooting the glass and using more gas than specified. Correct commissioning is a one-time job that pays back every winter.

Our process

Five steps from first call to certificate in your hand.

The same disciplined sequence on every project, whether it's a Georgian townhouse in Windsor or a new-build media wall in Ascot.

  1. 01

    Free site survey

Chris visits your home to measure the chimney, hearth, room volume and ventilation. We inspect the flue, discuss aesthetics and confirm what is achievable in your specific property, from Georgian townhouses to sealed new-build breasts.

  2. 02

Fixed written quote in 24–48 hours

Every line item priced: stove, flue components, hearth, chamber works, building control. Potential extras (unforeseen chimney issues, structural adjustments) are itemised in advance so the number you sign off is the number you pay.

  3. 03

    Design & specification sign-off

We refine the stove choice, materials, chamber finish and flue route with you. Deposit: cost of the stove plus 50% of installation, secures your slot within 72 hours of quote acceptance.

  4. 04

Installation on site (typically 1–3 days)

Dust sheets and protection go down first. Our HETAS-registered team completes the install to Building Regulations, cleans as we go, and treats your home like our own, no shortcuts, no mess left behind.

  5. 05

    Testing, HETAS certificate & aftercare

Smoke test, draw test, first light with you present, plus a full walk-through of controls, fuel and maintenance. HETAS certificate issued to you and your insurer. 12-month workmanship guarantee starts the day we leave.

Full commissioning paperwork issued on completion, for your records and your insurer.

Deep detail

What a proper gas stove installation involves

The engineering, materials and decisions behind the finished job.

Appliance selection

We install cast iron and steel gas stoves from established UK and European manufacturers, traditional stove-look and contemporary square-fronted models, natural gas and LPG variants. Selection follows room size, existing gas supply and flue availability.

Flue design

Balanced flue models draw combustion air from outside and vent through a concentric twin-wall flue, perfect for chimney-less properties. Conventional flue models use an existing lined chimney. We survey and specify based on what your property allows.

Gas supply and pressure

We check supply pressure, pipework sizing and appliance gas rate as part of every install. Any pipework upgrade needed is quoted in advance, not added on invoice day.

Commissioning and certification

Every install is commissioned with a flue gas analyser and pressure test, and notified to Gas Safe. You receive a Gas Safety Notification and the manufacturer commissioning documents.

Frequently asked

The questions we hear most often about gas stove installation.

How much does a gas stove installation cost?

+

Installation typically starts from £1,700 excluding the stove where mains gas and a suitable flue route are already available. Balanced-flue installs through an external wall and new pipework runs are quoted line-by-line so the figure is fixed.

Do I need an existing chimney?

+

No: balanced flue gas stoves install without a chimney. They vent through a concentric twin-wall flue through an external wall.

Is gas cheaper to run than a wood burner?

+

It depends on log supply. If you buy kiln-dried hardwood retail, gas can be comparable. If you source logs cheaply or free, wood is significantly cheaper per hour of heat.

Are gas stoves as warm as wood?

+

Correctly sized gas stoves output genuine radiant heat comparable to a wood burner of the same kW rating, they are not decorative fires.

Do I get certification?

+

Yes: every installation is Gas Safe notified with a Gas Safety Notification issued to you on completion.

Can you convert a wood burner to a gas stove?

+

You replace the appliance rather than convert it, the flue works are largely reusable but the stove itself is purpose-built for one fuel.

How long does an installation take?

+

1–2 days on site for most straightforward installs. Balanced flue installs through an external wall may extend to 2–3 days.

What guarantee do I get?

+

12-month workmanship guarantee minimum on the installation. Manufacturer warranty on the appliance varies by brand (typically 2–5 years on gas stoves).
